On 27 August 2026, city swimming competitions among the veterans of Almaty were held at the swimming pool of the Republican School-College of the Olympic Reserve, located in the Shanyrak-1 microdistrict of the Alatau District.
Forty veterans from various districts of the city took part in the competitions. The competitions were intense and keenly contested. The participants demonstrated good physical fitness, a sporting spirit and a drive for high results.
In the team standings, the places were distributed as follows:
1st place — the Medeu District team;
2nd place — the Bostandyk District team;
3rd place — the Alatau District team.
Particular attention was drawn to the 80-year-old veterans Akhmet Dariyash, Saylaubay Duysenbiev and Lyudmila Posysaeva, who achieved high individual results in the competitions. The winners, as well as the veterans who showed high sporting results, were awarded certificates of honour and commemorative gifts, presented by N. M. Tokmoldayev, Chairman of the sports commission, on behalf of the Almaty City Council of Veterans.
A buffet was organized for the participants by the Alatau District Council of Veterans. Holding city sports events among veterans helps to promote a healthy lifestyle, maintain active longevity and strengthen sporting traditions among the older generation.
