On 9 May 2026, the Akim of the city, D.A. Satybaldy, and the chairmen of the city and district councils of veterans of Almaty, together with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, home front workers, servicemen, and representatives of the public, took part in a solemn flower-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame at the Memorial of Glory in the Park named after the 28 Panfilov Guardsmen. Those gathered honored with a minute of silence the bright memory of the Kazakhstani soldiers who gave their lives for the peace and freedom of future generations.

One of the most significant parts of the Victory Day celebration also took place — the march “Homage to the Heroes – Forever in Our Memory.” More than 30 thousand city residents walked in a column carrying portraits of their relatives who took part in the Great Patriotic War, paying tribute to their feat and courage. The march united different generations of citizens and is a symbol of gratitude, memory, and the link between the past and the present.

The organization and conduct of the march were provided by the Union of Afghanistan Veterans of the city of Almaty, with the participation of internationalist soldier and Deputy Chairman of the Almaty City Council of Veterans M.M. Abdushkurov.
